A Look at the Top 5 Finishers in the 2025 FedEx Cup

Golfers on the PGA Tour compete in dozens of tournaments each year, including the four majors: the Masters, PGA Championship, U.S. Open, and Open Championship. Since the inception of the FedEx Cup in 2007, they also earn points based on their finish in each of these events, with the top 70 players earning a spot in the FedEx Cup playoffs.

The FedEx St. Jude Championship is the first of the three tournaments in the playoffs. Only the top 50 players in the standings after this event qualify for the BMW Championship. The top 30 players from here advance to the Tour Championship, held every year at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia.

From 2019 to 2024, the Tour Championship was played under the starting strokes format. The top-ranked player in the FedEx Cup standings began in first place at 10-under par, while the second- and third-place players started at 8 and 7 under, respectively. Players ranked 26 to 30 began at even par. However, the starting strokes format was abolished in 2025, giving all 30 Tour Championship qualifiers an equal chance at winning the $10 million first-place prize.

Here's a look at the top five finishers at the 2025 Tour Championship.

Tommy Fleetwood

The Tour Championship marked a storybook ending to the 2025 PGA Tour season for 34-year-old English golfer Tommy Fleetwood. A seven-time winner on the DP World Tour, Fleetwood was winless in 163 events on the PGA Tour and had several close calls and near misses. He had 30 top-five finishes, more than any player without a win in a century, and lost twice in devastating fashion in recent months. Fleetwood led by two strokes with three holes to play before finishing third at the FedEx St. Jude Championship and blew a one-shot lead to Keegan Bradley on the final hole of the Travelers Championship in June.

Fleetwood found himself in a familiar situation through three rounds at the Tour Championship and led the field by at least two strokes for most of the final round. He approached the 18th hole with a three-stroke lead and made par to settle for a two-under 68 for the round and 18-under for the weekend. Fleetwood boosted his PGA Tour career earnings to $44.4 million with the $10 million first-place prize.

"The buzz that's been around me when I've been in contention has been amazing. It's just so special. I never want to leave," said Fleetwood, a fan favorite at East Lake, during his post-round interview.

Fleetwood earned 1,783 FedEx Cup points through 16 events before the playoffs, good enough for ninth place. He moved up to eighth after a T3 finish at the FedEx St. Jude Championship and improved to fifth after a T4 result at the BMW Championship. Interestingly, he would have finished one shot behind regular season champion Scottie Scheffler if the PGA Tour kept the starting strokes format for the Tour Championship.

 Make it stand out

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

 Patrick Cantlay

Like Fleetwood, Patrick Cantlay was a major beneficiary of the change in format for the Tour Championship. The American was 23rd in regular season standings, but improved to 19th after a T9 finish at the Fed Ex St. Jude Championship. He was 20th entering the Tour Championship after a T30 result at the BMW Championship.

After scores of 64, 66, and 64 in the first three rounds, Cantlay was tied for the lead with Fleetwood heading into the final round of the Tour Championship. However, he shot 71 for a four-round total of 15-under, three shots behind Fleetwood. Cantlay didn't win in 2025, but made 16 of 19 cuts and had 10 top-25 finishes.

Russell Henley

American Russell Henley finished fourth in the FedEx Cup regular season standings and tied for second in the Tour Championship at 15-under. He led all players with a first-round score of nine-under 61 and followed that up with rounds of 66, 69, and 69.

Henley won the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March and was also runner-up at the Travelers Championship. He had 10 top-10 finishes in 18 starts.

Corey Conners

Canadian Corey Conners vaulted up the leaderboard during the fourth round of the Tour Championship, ultimately securing a T4 finish—and $2.6 million in prize money—with a final round 62. He tied with Scheffler and Cameron Young at 14-under.

Conners, who was 13th in the regular season standings, made the cut in 20 of 21 events in 2025 and had seven top-10 finishes. His best result was a third-place finish at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Scottie Scheffler

A fifth-place result in the season-ending standings doesn't accurately describe how impressive Scheffler was this season. The University of Texas alumnus won five times this season and had top 10 finishes in each of his 16 starts. His 4,806 regular season FedEx Cup standings points were 1,362 more than second-place finisher Rory McIlroy and 2,211 more than third-place finisher Sepp Straka. He has also been No. 1 in the Official World Golf Rankings for more than 150 weeks.

Scheffler's five victories include major championship wins at the PGA Championship and Open Championship. He also finished fourth at the Masters and T7 at the U.S. Open. He won the BMW Championship, the second-last event of the year, and finished four shots behind Fleetwood, at 14-under, in the Tour Championship.
